St. Kilian’s National School, Mullagh, Co. Cavan

Thursday 17th September 2015 was a momentous day in the history of St. Kilian’s National School as the first sod was turned on the school’s new building project. The ceremony took place on a new 4 acre green field site on the Virginia Road

Ms. Mary Monnelly, the school’s deputy principal, had the honor of turning the first sod.

Kenny Lyons Associates Architects lead a design team which includes Waterman Moylan Consulting Engineers, Hayes Higgins Partnership and McGahan Surveyors

Ganson Building and Civil Engineering Contractors Ltd., from Balbriggan have been awarded the contract to build

The new school will be a generic repeat design 16 classroom school with associated site works. The overall cost of the project is €5 million. The 16 classroom school includes a General Purpose Room, library, support teaching rooms, staff room and other ancillary accommodation. Also included in the design is dedicated facility for Spraoi the school’s 3 classroom ASD Unit. The siteworks will include two ballcourts and junior play area, informal grass play areas, landscaping, boundary treatments, pedestrian and vehicle access roads and car park.

St Kilian’s presently has 14 classrooms in temporary accommodation including a two storey structure. The new school should finally see an end to temporary accommodation in Mullagh.
