St. Brendan’s Community School
The extension to St. Brendan’s secondary school in Birr was a very exciting project as the challenge presented to the practice was to provide a cost effective solution to provide additional classroom and ancillary accommodation to an award winning modern school design.
The first phase of the project included the provision of additional facilities for the sports hall including toilets, changing rooms and a gym area.
The second phase comprised of the additional classroom accommodation and alterations to the existing layout including fire safety improvements to the original building.
The original pre-cast concrete structure constructed in the early 1980’s was bright and spacious, however modern building regulations prevented many of the details from being replicated. The new extension is true to the original concept with the new rooms enclosing a new courtyard for student recreation.
